FLIGHTS TO MONGOLIA
When traveling to Mongolia there are many options now – however – we recommend the following for most travelers that are coming from either USA, UK or EU:
OUR FLIGHT RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Flights to Mongolia from America (MIAT https://miat.com/): From 2021 American travelers will have a new option/route to Mongolia – Mongolian Airlines (MIAT) from 2021 will be offering direct flights between The United State and Mongolia!
- Flights to Mongolia from America (OTHER AIRLINES): Americans traveling from the United States should fly via Japan or Korea as you can safely arrive to Mongolia without any Visa hassles – just like a road trip to Canada all you need is your passport and in a less than a day you’ll be in Mongolia!
- Flights to Mongolia from EU (Mongolian Airlines): You can fly to Mongolia via Berlin, Frankfurt and Moscow with Mongolian Airlines – and we assist on obtaining ‘Group Discounts’.
- Flights to Mongolia from EU (Alternative – TURKISH AIR): From 2020 Turkish Airlines is offering directly flights between EU and Mongolia (3 times a week) – trust me – the online e-Visa for Turkey is MUCH MORE EASIER/QUICKER (within minutes) than the Russian (though Russia offers no-Visa transits). Another advantage is that their prices are very competitive as well as their NEWLY OPENED Istanbul International Airport is just fantastic!

HEALTH AND SAFETY WITHIN MONGOLIA
GER to GER strives to make adventure travel as safe as is practically possible. All of our guides and staff complete Red Cross recognized First Aid training programs, and all guides and trip leaders have completed an essential guiding skills program focused on safety and client care. All of our drivers are experienced countryside drivers and have annual refresher courses in safe driving skills and accident prevention. In trips to remote areas, our guides are equipped with mobile phones to assist us in locating your group and providing assistance or evacuation in case of an emergency. We maintain regular contacts with emergency evacuation services including helicopter and small plane charter companies and emergency medical service providers in Ulaanbaatar. Safety is the first concern we have in the planning and preparation of each and every trip, and we have contingency plans for bad weather, vehicle breakdowns, and other unexpected events. Senior office staffs have many years of experience in leading expeditions to remote places, and have traveled independently throughout Mongolia in all weather conditions. At all times, our Ulaanbaatar based staff is available to resolve problems and assist in emergency situations, and will work with your guide or trip leader to ensure all efforts are made to provide timely, adequate assistance.
MONGOLIAN CLIMATE & TRAVEL SEASONS
Tourism season is between June and October. Summer extremes reach as high as 38° C in the southern Gobi region and 33° C in Ulaanbaatar city. Ulaanbaatar lies at 1,351 meters above sea level in the valley of the Tuul Gol, a river. Located in the relatively well-watered north, it receives an annual average of 31 centimeters of precipitation, almost all of which falls in July and in August. Ulaanbaatar has an average annual temperature of -2.9°C and a frost-free period extending on the average from mid-June to late August.
May and September are considered as Mongolia’s shoulder tourism season. On these months, if you plan your trip not only you get roughly 10-20 percent discount on your hotel and transportation cost but also you enjoy the country with fewer tourists – however – weather can be changeable so please don’t forget to pack your warm fleece jackets for a cold snap.
From October to May is considered as a low tourism season in Mongolia and most ger camps and guesthouses are closed. The coldest months are December and January with temperatures dropping down to -15C daytime and -30C+ nighttime. In countryside, cold temperature across the open valleys with windchill will easily reach more than -35C. Winter tour activities such as visiting nomadic families at their winter shelter, horseback riding, traveling by ox cart with warm blankets and dogsledding are available in low season. From March to the late May is considered a spring season or breeding season and the weather in the springtime can be unpredictable. Sometimes you can see different weather conditions from sunny clear day to snowing cloudy day all just in one day and it’s coming that dust storms can spice up from time to time. Its’ during this time that Nomads start receiving and taking care of newborn animals as well as preparing sheep and goats for cashmere combing or shearing.
