Authentic Wildlife & Birdwatching Expedition Across Mongolia’s Protected Reserves

Experience Mongolia’s stunning biodiversity on a Jeep expedition that takes you through some of the country’s most significant wildlife and bird conservation areas. This itinerary is carefully designed to maximize your chances of spotting rare migratory birds and native wildlife while exploring Mongolia’s vast landscapes. You’ll traverse breathtaking national parks such as Gun Galuut Nature Reserve, Khustai National Park, and Khugnu Khan National Park, immersing yourself in diverse ecosystems while engaging with Mongolia’s rich nomadic culture.

Day 1 – Journey to Chinggis Khan’s Statue & Gun Galuut Nature Reserve

(L, D – Overnight at Gun Galuut Tourist Camp) Your adventure begins with an overland drive to the iconic Chinggis Khan Statue, where you’ll have time to take photos and explore this towering landmark. From there, we continue to Gun Galuut Nature Reserve, a well-preserved habitat for Mongolia’s rare and endangered wildlife. After lunch at Steppe Nomads Ger Camp, enjoy an afternoon hike around Baits Mountain, home to the critically endangered wild mountain sheep (Argali). Birdwatchers can spot rare species such as the White-naped Crane, Black Stork, Swan Goose, and Whooper Swan. End the day with dinner and an overnight stay at the camp.

Day 2 – Overland to Khustai National Park: Home of the Przewalski’s Wild Horse

(B, L, D – Overnight in Nomadic Ger Camp) After breakfast, the journey continues to the Hustai Nuruu National Park, a UNESCO-listed protected area in Töv Province. After lunch, visit the Khustai Park Information Center to gain insight into the region’s flora and fauna. The highlight of the day is a visit to the Moltsog sand dunes and the habitat of the legendary Przewalski’s horse (Takhi)—the only truly wild horse species left in the world. This experience offers incredible wildlife photography opportunities as you observe these majestic creatures in their natural surroundings.

Day 3 – Horseback Riding to Swan Lake: A Desert Oasis in Mongolia

(B, L, D – Overnight in a Nomadic Ger Camp) Start the day with a drive to a traditional Mongolian nomadic family, where you’ll be warmly welcomed with a home-cooked lunch and traditional Mongolian milk tea. In the afternoon, embark on a 6-kilometer horseback journey to Swan Lake, a picturesque oasis nestled beside the Mongol Desert Sand Dunes. This pristine ecosystem is home to a resident pair of whooper swans, symbolizing resilience and harmony in Mongolia’s extreme landscapes. Return to your host family’s ger for dinner and a restful night.

Day 4 – Lake Ugii: Mongolia’s Premier Birdwatching Destination

(B, L, D – Overnight in a Tourist Camp) Drive to Lake Ugii, one of Mongolia’s most renowned birdwatching sites. Spanning 27 square kilometers, this freshwater lake attracts over 150 rare bird species, including Dalmatian Pelicans, Pallas’s Fish Eagles, and various species of swans and geese. Walk along the lake’s shoreline, explore a nearby mountain for panoramic views, and capture stunning photographs of Mongolia’s wildlife and landscapes. In the evening, settle into a comfortable tourist camp by the lake.

Day 5 – Return to Ulaanbaatar & Farewell Dinner

(B – Return to Ulaanbaatar, End of Tour) After breakfast, drive back to Ulaanbaatar, where you will check into your hotel and have the afternoon free for leisure, souvenir shopping, or optional city sightseeing. In the evening, gather for a farewell dinner, celebrating the unforgettable experiences and breathtaking landscapes encountered throughout the journey.
